SET-UP FOR SUNDAY HOLY EUCHARIST

Please... allow time for the quiet and thoughtful manner of this, your work.

After dusting and vacuuming, set up the following:

Narthex Table: Place wine cruet (3/4 full) and bread box (ciborium) with 75

wafers in it on the table at the back of the church. The Guest Book should be there.

Round tables: Place one offering plate on Gospel side; leave Epistle side empty.

Credence table: Place water cruet (3/4 full) on left with handle facing wall and lavabo bowl in front of cruet with lavabo towel under bowl.

Acolyte's chair: Place Sanctus bells under Credence table. Place hymnal, prayer book and bulletin on chair.

Candle snuffer: Leave in Sacristy but check length of taper and replace, if needed. Extra tapers are in a box in the tall cupboard in Sacristy.

Altar rail: Place chasuble face down over rail (right side) with back side folded up. Check calendar for proper color. Put Birthday Offering church next to rail.

Altar: Remove dust cover, folding ends to center two times and place on shelf under altar. Using red gloves, place two brass candle holders one hand's width from either end of altar. Wicks should stand up. Replace candles less than 3 inches long. Spread out corporal; place large chalice (cross facing you) in middle square, purificator across chalice, wooden paten on top, priest's host on paten, large pall on top; drape veil over all, folding up the side facing you with burse , containing extra purificator, on top of veil. (Check calendar for proper color.) Place small chalice with purificator draped over it on shelf under altar on Epistle side. Place missal stand with prayer book on Gospel side. Arrange flowers and place on shelves at sides of altar (except during Lent).

Votives: Check Sanctuary Candle for replacement. Check all votive candles in stand next to organ and replace empties. Bend wicks in upright position. Check supply of matches. Extras can be found in tall cupboard in Sacristy.

Now take a deep breath, say a prayer of thanks and smile. God loves you.

AMEN!

FOR WEDNESDAY EUCHARIST

Leave dust cloth on altar. Spread out corporal. Place small chalice in center with a purificator, deep silver paten, TWO (3) priest's hosts and the small pall layered on it. Place the water and wine cruets on the credence table with handles facing you.

FOR A BAPTISM

Move font to back of church in front of double doors. Place silver shell, small white terry towel and oil stock (from Aumbry) on the side of font. Prepare a pitcher of warm water.

HOW TO CLEAN UP AFTER A EUCHARIST

Boil water in electric kettle. Make up soapy water (half hot, half cold) in plastic bowl. Wash chalice(s) and paten, rinse well with boiled water and dry immediately. Using damp cloth, wipe fingerprints off bread box, cruets and offering plate. Wrap silver pieces in bags and place in cupboard. Set cruets aside on counter.

DO NOT PUT BOILING WATER INTO CRUETS. THEY WILL CRACK!

Drape wet linen on towel rack to dry. Fold corporal and put it, burse and pall in overhead cupboard. Hang veil in tall cupboard. Using red gloves on brass items, put candle holders, bells, offering plate and birthday church in respective cupboards. Clean off taper end and bell interior of candle snuffer with a paper towel and place on hook next to window.

Put missal stand and book under altar. Place dust cover on altar. Hang up chasuble and other vestments in zipper bags.

Arrange hymnals and prayer books in pews: red, blue, blue, red &endash; green behind blue. Pick up discarded bulletins and put on shelf by clock for recycling. Leave flowers on altar shelves. Turn out lights, including one by Sacristy door and one by Aumbry. LOCK SIDE DOOR AND DOUBLE DOORS.

At the end of your month on duty: polish silver, clean candle snuffer, change Eucharist candles if under 3 inches in height, check Fair Linen for stains and replace, if needed.
